Winter 2007 Beethoven Piano Party
Students started the party by coloring and filling worksheets, followed by some fun music board games which were led by my two eldest students, Kaylin and Dylan. Then we had a Beethoven quiz game, since we've been studying this great composer, followed by a lovely recital. The kids did really well and were excited to spend their hard-earned piano points at the piano store following the recital.
2006-2007
Students in my piano studio get to participate in a wonderful event inspired by my piano teacher, Carolyn Rios: PIANO PARTIES! As a tween & teen, I loved going to Mrs. Rios' piano parties for games and a recital. Now a new generation of youngsters get to enjoy a similar activity twice during the school year here in Galena.
During our first semester, students studied the life of J.S. Bach while learning piano technique and repertoire. So at our first party, we had several Bach-related games before students presented their piano pieces for each other.
Our final party of the year featured a student favorite called Biff. Each student chooses a musical name or term for themselves. One student stands in the circle of kids with a pillow in hand. The pillow-holding student calls out his or her own name along with one other name. The person whose name is called must quickly say his or her own name plus another name before the one with the pillow whacks them and switches places with them. After Biff and other games, students presented their piano solos and duets. I was very proud of each of them and their progress.
